In short

Reader collects nothing. It has no servers, makes no network requests, and never sees your browsing history. Everything happens on your device.

What the extension does

When you press Alt+R or click the toolbar icon, Reader runs Mozilla's open-source Readability engine locally in your browser to extract the article from the page you are viewing, and displays it in a clean overlay.

Data collection

Personal data collected: none.
Browsing data collected: none. The extension can only access a page at the moment you invoke it on that page (Chrome's activeTab permission). It has no ability to read pages in the background and requests no host permissions.
Analytics or telemetry: none. There is no tracking code of any kind.
Network requests: none. The extension works fully offline.

What is stored, and where

Your display preferences (theme, font, text size, column width, line spacing) and optional per-site variants of those preferences are stored in Chrome's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your device only. Hostnames you have customised (for example example.com) are stored as preference keys. This data never leaves your browser and is deleted when you uninstall the extension. You can remove individual per-site entries at any time from the options page.

Third parties

None. No data is shared with anyone, because no data is collected.

Payments (future)

A one-time Pro upgrade may be offered later, processed by ExtensionPay/Stripe on their own pages. If that is introduced, this policy will be updated first; the free features and the no-data-collection guarantee above will not change.
